Collections
Care Award
n
Wednesday 28th November 2001, Northern Ireland's Minister for
Culture, Arts and Leisure, Michael McGimpsey MLA, presented the
2001 Museum of the Year Awards to six outstanding museums from
throughout Ireland. At a ceremony held at Parliament Building,
Stormont, over 100 museum and heritage representatives gathered
to hear the announcement of the winners. This year, Muckross Research
Library received the accolade for Best Collections Care.
In
their citation the judges stated that Muckross Research Library
'houses a rich variety of printed ephemera and constitutes
an important archive.' In addition, the judges noted that
care of the library collections has now been supplemented by a
splendid bindery and paper conservation workshop, under the management
of Mr Paul Curtis. The Museum of the Year Awards are organised
by the Northern Ireland Museums Council and are sponsored by the
Gulbenkian Foundation and the Heritage Council of Ireland.
The
staff of Muckross Research Library are delighted with the award
and would like to take this opportunity to thank all their friends
and colleagues for their continuous help and encouragement.
