Large
Size Farm
Throughout Munster, Leinster and parts of
east Connacht the predominant farmyard type for large
and medium sized farms was a courtyard where the dwelling
house and outhouses are arranged around a rectangular
space which forms the farmyard. This farm is representative
of a large holding of 100 acres approximately. As well
as dairying and tillage, grain crops such as wheat,
barley and oats were also grown.
