Sandford Award
Muckross Traditional
Farms have just been informed that they have been awarded the
Sandford Award for Heritage Education by the UK Heritage Education
Trust. The award is for Féile
Chultúir Chiarraí, our annual week-long series
of ’hands on’ workshops for primary school children.
Muckross Traditional Farms works closely with Muckross
Research Library in the running of this event.
Since 1982 the Heritage Education Trust has recognised and promoted
quality education in Historic Houses, Castles, Gardens, Museums
and Galleries. The Trust welcomes the opportunity for children
to get out of the usual classroom setting to explore their heritage.
Muckross Traditional Farms first received this award in November
2003. It was the first time this prestigious award was granted
outside the UK. The award is granted for a period of five years
and each site must then reapply to be assessed by a panel of independent
judges.
The Sandford Award was granted again to the Muckross Traditional
Farms in November 2008.

Mr. Toddy Doyle of Muckross Traditional Farms
receives the Sandford Award 2003.
